Wendy’s passsion took over……………..

It was one of the hardest decisions she ever had to take, but after 20 years of being a flight attendant for KLM, Wendy resigned her fantastic job.
It turned out to be impossible to combine her great passion for photography and film and the precious project “Shoot with a local” with her intensive irregular life as a ‘sky angel’

And so I filmed her very last departure and arrival on Amsterdam Aiport. Wendy’s last flight was to Xiamen and back Amsterdam.

Flight KL883-KL884, was operated by captain Huub van Loon, First Officer Lex van Uitert and Second Officer Frédérigue Machiels.

Flight KL883 , departure on runway 27 with the B789 Dreamliner registrated as PH-BHG.

Backflight KL884, arrival on runway 36R was also operated with the B789 Dreamliner and this time with PH-BHC.

Lieve vrienden en collega’s,

Ik heb gekozen …

Het was één van de moeilijkste beslissingen die ik ooit heb moeten nemen, maar ik ben inmiddels, na bijna 20 jaar als stewardess voor KLM te hebben gevlogen gestopt met mijn fantastische baan.
Mijn grote passie voor fotografie, film en mijn dierbare project Shoot with a local bleek niet meer te combineren met mijn intensieve onregelmatige leven als “sky angel”

De baan die mij zoveel vreugde heeft gebracht, de baan waardoor ik de wereld heb kunnen ontdekken en al die fotografen heb kunnen ontmoeten. Door deze baan heb ik mij kunnen ontwikkelen tot wie ik nu ben en dankzij mijn prachtige baan heb ik zoveel mooie bijzondere collega’s mogen leren kennen. Wat ben ik ongelooflijk dankbaar voor de waanzinnige momenten die ik met hen op de route heb mogen delen. Wat heb ik samen met hen toch veel gezien, gedaan, gegeten, gedronken, gelachen, gedanst en gezongen. Ik heb ontzettend veel van hen mogen leren en ik heb genoten van de intens mooie gesprekken, vooral ook de afgelopen maanden. Het was zo fijn om mijn toekomst plannen met sommige collega’s te kunnen delen en het heeft me echt ontroerd hoe sommigen van deze collega’s op mijn besluit hebben gereageerd. Ze zijn een fantastische steun gebleken en menig goed idee is mij aangereikt om deze grote sprong in het diepe tot een succes te maken. Ik ga mijn baan en mijn ‘blauwe’ vrienden definitief enorm missen!

Ik heb mijn “laatste” reis en mijn gevoelens rondom deze moeilijke beslissing geprobeerd weer te geven in een kort filmpje. Aan het einde komen ook nog één keer alle heerlijke blauwe feel good KLM “bemanningen” foto’s voorbij die ik de afgelopen jaren heb mogen nemen. In dit filmpje heb ik ook beelden verwerkt die Ralph Valkenier “Bokito” heeft gemaakt van de start en de Landing van mijn allerlaatste vlucht naar Xiamen (China) een paar weken geleden. Er is ook een lange versie beschikbaar van alle beelden die Ralph heeft geschoten. De link staat onderaan deze post.

Het gaat voor nu even te ver om alle namen te achterhalen en het taggen van de collega’s die hebben meegewerkt aan het tot stand komen van de “KLM” foto’s, maar ik wil jullie allemaal nogmaals enorm bedanken voor jullie enthousiasme en vertrouwen in mij als fotograaf!

I have chosen …

It was one of the hardest decisions I ever had to take, but after 20 years of being a flight attendant for KLM l resigned my fantastic job.
It turned out to be impossible to combine my great passion for photography and film and my precious project “Shoot with a local” with my intensive irregular life as a ‘sky angel’

The job that brought me so much joy and happiness, the job that allowed me to discover the world and through which I was able to meet all those photographers. This job has helped me develop into who I am today and thanks to it, I have met so many unbelievably special colleagues. I am so incredibly grateful for the amazing moments I have been able to share with them ‘enroute’. How much I have seen, done, eaten, drunk, laughed, danced and sang together with them. I have learned a lot from many of them and I enjoyed the intensely beautiful conversations, especially in recent months. It was so nice to be able to share my future plans with some colleagues and it really moved me how some of them responded to my decision. They were fantastic support and they have given me so many good ideas to make this great leap of faith into a success.
I will definitely miss my job and my ‘blue’ friends a lot!

I have tried to document my last trip and my feelings around this difficult decision in a short film.
